One of the themes that I repeated like a mantra throughout the research and design process of our mural, is that you can be the hero of our own story. We are not defined by past mistakes. We have learned from them. By being present, any dream is possible. In a beautifully serendipitous moment, me and @nantuayauma discovered that photos taken from just the right angle allow you to become a part of the composition— wearing a crown of light as hopes and dreams spring forth from the mind. We are all unique creative beings who can make dreams reality, inspire others and achieve immortality. So here I am, a part of the art. A being, transformed by the process, moving through my own personal recovery, one moment at a time. “I have realized that the past and future are real illusions, that they exist in the present, which is what there is and all there is.” Alan Watts
"Bridging Transformation" 68ft x 32ft. the Bronx, NYC.
Huge thanks to everyone at @gswellmural and VIP Community Services who made this possible. As well as my amazing crew and my partner @nantuayauma! Thank you all to everyone that came out and celebrated with us today. You all mean the world to me. I’m so glad to be able to share with you, the culmination of all of our hard work this summer. It was a deeply personal project for all of us involved revolving around the themes of rebirth, recovery, and transformation. I’ll be posting more detail shots to reveal some of the hidden gems. I hope you will all get to see it in person someday. #groundswellnyc #lukeismyhero #113 #forever
Continuing to reflect back 3 years ago, to my wedding party being “breaking news” during Hurricane Irene. What a crazy experience, being stranded in the beautiful mountains of Vermont, after the storm ravaged the roads and bridges in and out of town. Luckily we were with some of our closest friends and family. We made the most of what would have been a terrible experience for some people and our friendships and love all grew stronger, sticking together and helping each other and strangers. Big thanks to all the people in Pittsfield who took us in, feeding, sheltering us, and who made the experience go smoothly. We were happy to help out in any way we could: Shoveling mud from homes, shuttling supplies and water around, picking crops in the fields, cooking, working at the general store, and rebuilding a bridge. Much love to all my #113 crew peeps who have been through it all with us. Love you guys. I love thinking about those dark starry nights with @justinwhiskey & @miked072 playing guitar and leading sing alongs as a bonfire raged at the farm across the road, while we were stuck on our little island in the mountains. #tbt
It feels like we are slowly unwrapping the best present we ever gave ourselves. Really fun watching the scaffold come down, revealing our hard work. This has been a blast. Big thanks to Raul Ayala @nantuayauma for having my back throughout the long process, start to finish. And to everyone at VIP. You rock! #groundswellnyc Come join us for the dedication ceremony Friday at 11am. 770 e176th st. Bronx, NYC.
And the break down begins. Can’t wait to see this #groundswellnyc wall that me and @nantuayauma have put so much time and love into, along with our VIP Community Services team of participants.
Today was the last full day on the scaffold before breakdown. My bro @nantuayauma keeps raising the bar. We are pushing this wall like crazy. for now here are some of Nantu’s lovely, gravity defying drips of dream.
Special Thanks: to my brother @chrissoria who showed up to help today and banged out the long list of credits, finishing well after dark by flashlight. That’s some love. #groundswellnyc #113
Painted until there was no more light. Two more days before they start taking down the scaffold! Can’t wait!!! #groundswellnyc

Spent time revisiting my Star Child painting last night. Had been resisting getting back to work on it. Ended up making more changes and tweaks than I thought I would. Really happy with it now. And really glad I overcame whatever was keeping me from getting it done. What do you all think? #lukeismyhero #113 #forever
George B., working up on the scaffold, detailing patterns based on his sketches of the quilts we saw at the American Folk Art Museum.
After painting the big Bronx mural with my crew all day, I can’t help but keep on sketching people on the train. Feeling inspired.
